I was in what I thought was a very happy marriage and had been with my husband for many years. There was no inkling of anything. And then I came home, and he had disappeared. He'd ghosted me.
Initially, I retained the services of another big firm in London. My experience with them was a nightmare, and I felt like there needed to be more integrity regarding billings and getting back to the client. If you send an email, you don't want to wait three weeks for a response because you're having sleepless nights. It was a three-year process, and there was a lot of evidence, so my ex-husband settled. More recently, he wanted to bury the spousal support. So that's what led me to the Family Law Group, where Brenda Barr took over from there.
Who I was dealing with was extremely aggressive, and it was just a nightmare that he put me through the first time. Because of who I was dealing with, I was looking for a very assertive lawyer who could hold their own in facing someone who was extremely bullying, manipulative, and dishonest. I required someone who was not only well-versed in family law but could see this through to what would become an aggressive trial. I needed a highly skilled and experienced lawyer, and I'd heard through word of mouth that Brenda Barr was that person who also had a lot of integrity and who would fight for her clients.
Everybody in that law firm was stellar. There wasn't one unprofessional person. Everybody was kind, patient, knowledgeable, and prompt in getting back to me. My experience in having had the Family Law Group handle my case was a really positive one. How the Family Law Group handles things doesn't even compare. It was far superior in terms of customer service, being available, thorough, providing advice, and being kind during what was an extremely difficult time for me.
Even though the Family Law Group was very expensive, working with Brenda, a senior lawyer, they weren't a law firm to capitalize on my state of mind. In fact, they did the exact opposite, always reminding me that time was money for me and that we needed to be briefer on things. And I really respected that. That showed a lot of integrity and helped me trust them because I trust no one anymore. I also loved that if I sent them an email, they were very prompt in getting back to me, alleviating the wait time and my anxiety about things.

I settled for not a lot of money, but I feel free. I can already feel that things are turning for me mentally because I'm finally free of him, and he's now dead to me and gone, and I never have to deal with him again. That's been everything for me. So I still made the right decision, despite the advice I was getting. Brenda was very clear in pointing out her views on what she felt would be acceptable by a court and that she wasn't in agreement and thought that he was getting a great deal. But at the end of the day, it had to come down to what I decided I could deal with and take anymore. I'd been bullied to the end, and mentally I was not well, so I just couldn't take anymore. The decision was made by me and was based on years of having had to deal with this lying narcissist. I don't think I would have survived it, as I already had to deal with trauma and depression from the fallout of our marriage. That's what I ended up explaining to Brenda.
They were fabulous. Every single one of them was amazing. Brenda is hands down the only person I would ever see if I needed help again, and I have told everybody I know she is stellar. And as far as her support staff, I dealt with Lauren, Melanie, Danielle, Christina, and then Wendy, her bookkeeper, and every single one was amazing. Just amazing. She's hired really well. If you're looking for the best law firm to represent your interests, the Family Law Group is professional, knowledgeable, and has a lot of integrity.
