I needed assistance with a divorce with a shared custody component with children.

My case didn't originate with the Family Law Group. It originated with a different lawyer who had to recuse himself from our case because he received an appointment to serve as a judge. He had recommended the Family Law Group and my lawyer's services to me. I needed assistance with a divorce with a shared custody component with children. It's been a multi-year process that I initiated with my first lawyer in about 2015. Then after nearly two years, the last lawyer had to recuse himself, and then I landed with her. It was about two years with my lawyer before everything was said and done.
When I first met with her, I liked her style. I liked her approach. She was forward. She was honest with me, which I was looking for, and it felt like it was a good match. It was a professional environment, and I felt like the Family Law Group was more of a polished firm. My lawyer definitely came across as very polished and very professional. She knew what she was doing.
During the initial consultation, she was quite candid with me and frank about what was next. I came in quite prepared, having done my homework, and she was quick to receive my feedback. It wasn't dismissive of the work that I had put in. It was, "Thank you for highlighting these things for me." Because it was quite a file that she had received. I ended up submitting my retainer within 48 hours of meeting my lawyer. I definitely felt there was good value there. It was a very professional interaction, which I was quite happy with, and I was feeling relief that I had someone competent that would be able to take me through to the finish line.
The outcome of my case was the completion of a shared custody agreement and confirmation of dollars of support. She was the one that came up with different approaches that we could take and brought in third parties to help us get to a final state. That was very positive for me because that hadn't existed previously. My ex's lawyer hadn't brought those to the table, so I felt like my lawyer brought a nice, fresh perspective.
My lawyer was very open and transparent, and my previous lawyer had a very soft bedside manner. He would try to sugarcoat things, whereas she would say it as it is, which I truly appreciated. She clearly had my best interest at heart. It wasn't a life and death situation, but she did take it quite seriously, and I really did appreciate her effort.
She was very competent. She understood the law. She understood the case. Even when we would go two or three months between talking and we had to do a refresher, she was always quick to refer back to her notes to see where things were, and she always took my feedback. The correspondence was always on point, and communication was always succinct.
The staff, or clerks, were very responsive anytime I would have a question. It was quite positive that way. I only interacted with them over email, and they were always quick to respond and very supportive with any questions. I'm more of a digital person, so I was pretty happy to be working with a firm that was quick to email back and forth. It definitely exceeded my expectations. Given that they were a tech-savvy firm, it made things easy for when we had to start doing video conferences instead of meeting in person. That certainly helped me.
It was a great experience with the firm. My lawyer was great to work with. The biggest challenge that we had was the time limits of the other side. And then, when it came time to get into the court system, all the delays were due to COVID.
I had a negative perception of lawyers going in thinking they'll go out of their way to drag things out. That was not my experience with her at all. If it didn't make sense for us to talk, she'd flat out say, "Don't waste your time with me. There's nothing for us to talk about right now. Let's talk again in a month."
I now have closure and peace of mind. I definitely got some gray hairs through the duration of the process, but it's nice to be on the other side of that now and have the relief of not having to work through the legal system anymore.
I would quite contently recommend my lawyer and the Family Law Group.
