Professionalism
She was so great and worked so hard. I never felt like they weren't working in my best interest.

She was very clear all the way along. And it wasn't always Lisa I was dealing with. Sometimes I was dealing with one of her legal clerks or assistants. I don't know what the proper title is. There were three other people at different times I dealt with. And in the final sort of month of my case, because it just ended, it was Liz Edwards, and she worked like a dog with a bone. She was so great and worked so hard.
I would say at no point did I question. Going back to the initial question you asked me about how you feel about lawyers and that kind of thing, my past experiences were always, "What's going on? Are they even working for me? Is anything happening?" That kind of thing. I never felt that way with Lisa or anybody in the family law group. There was a long hiatus because of COVID, and we couldn't go to court, but I never felt like they weren't working in my best interest.
In particular, with Lisa, we had maybe three different instances where we were with a settlement court judge on Zoom, and Lisa's team either sent me an email or Lisa would call me to explain the process and sort of prep me for that settlement conference. And each of those three or four times that we were actually on Zoom, I was never anxious. I was never nervous about who was representing me and how they were representing me.
Lisa came to the table every time she was in her office, 25 minutes away from me. I was at home, and she came on the screen. She looked professional. She was always well-prepared and very well-spoken. I sat there, and I didn't say anything. I would sit there and listen because I never felt anxious about how I was being represented or whether the case was being represented appropriately. She was always on the ball, always professional, looked professional, and spoke professionally.
When I got divorced, initially, I hired the top divorce lawyer in London, and at the time, it was excruciatingly expensive for me. I was a single mom with three kids. But I felt, if I'm going to get this done properly, I've been through three other lawyers, I may as well go to the top dog and get it done. And there were still things that got missed. There were still things that didn't get covered that should have been covered. And when you're getting divorced, and it's your first time, you don't know. You don't know the questions to ask. And I never felt that with Lisa or anybody on her team.
Liz Edwards, her legal clerk, is not only incredibly bright but she's so efficient. And I worked with her very closely, always by email once by Zoom, but so reliable. And honestly, by the end, I felt she knew the case better than I did. No, she dug deep.
When you're in a situation like that, you want to feel that your person is ahead of the game. And I felt that way every time. Part of that is because my ex-husband's lawyer was really poorly prepared. But even if he wasn't, even if the opposing lawyer was as good as mine, I never felt like Lisa didn't have all of the information at her fingertips. She was fully invested in the process. She knew the ins and outs of my case incredibly. Because this is a case that was eleven years old when she took it on. So a lot of water had gone under the bridge. But she was very professional, very professional performance in terms of addressing the judge, addressing the other lawyer, and addressing me if she needed to. Ultimate professionalism.
They send a very itemized review of every single charge. When they send you those monthly or semi-monthly emails that tell you to top up your retainer, they itemize everything that it costs.
