I got talking to some local people, and they said, "There's this amazing lawyer in London. It's a great law firm. They have some really good lawyers there. Give them a call." and it was Brenda Barr.
I started shopping around for a lawyer because I knew that my next step would probably be dealt with through a law firm. I did call the police. I met with a police officer. I went to the children's aid society to see if there was any help they could give me. They all basically said the same thing. "You have to get a lawyer."
So I met with a lawyer in Exeter. He deals with family, and criminal, and real estate. He's kind of a Jack of all trades, but he's not a master of any. When I met with him, he was hemming and hawing. He said, "Being as she's out in Edmonton, it's going to be a tough case. I just didn't get a good vibe from him. I wanted somebody who was confident and knew what the first step was going to be. And I didn't get that vibe from him. So I walked out of the office, and I said, "I don't think that's my guy."

Once you got that recommendation for the firm, did you use reviews to get a better sense of who you're dealing with?
Yeah, absolutely. I'm one of those Google review readers. Everything I do, if I don't already know what I'm doing, I review it. I read a ton of reviews. They're not all about Brenda. The other head lawyer there is Lisa. And then they have a whole bunch of juniors that are absolutely amazing.
There were so many good reviews about Family Law Group in general. I decided I had to meet with these people. I had to act quickly because I knew there was a time crunch. I definitely researched them quite a bit.
