I felt much better. I felt confident, and I felt like I actually had a fighting chance. Which is something I hadn't felt yet in that whole situation.
I was still terrified because if you lose, you lose everything. I didn't really know what to expect, but I felt some degree of confidence given the reviews and all that.
She was very professional, concise, and to the point. We didn't miss anything. She went over everything with me. She told me what we can do, and I thought it was good. She brought in her laptop, took all the notes, wrote down all the information, and told me what she was going to require from me.
She gave me the contract and told me about the contract I would have emailed to me. She told me to sit down, review it, and actually read the whole thing. Don't skip parts. Read it all. I remember her saying that a couple of times,
"Make sure you read it all."
"Talk to us on Monday, and if you'd like to retain us..."
She told me what the retainer was and,
"We'll start getting to work right away."
Monday I paid the retainer, and they got to work right away.
I found out many of the things that my lawyer I had previously didn't handle properly. I felt much better. I felt confident, and I felt like I actually had a fighting chance. Which is something I hadn't felt yet in that whole situation.
She was, at that point, the first lawyer I had talked to who said that I had a real shot of getting 50/50. There was actually another lawyer I met with in Woodstock. He told me flat out,
"You will never get it, just try for the best that you can."
Now I've had three lawyers, and the third one finally told me,
"Oh yeah, I see no reason why you won't get 50/50."
That right there was the breath of fresh air that I needed, someone saying that I've got a real shot.
I actually recommended the Family Law Group to a guy at work, and he had told me essentially the exact same thing. The whole experience, everything was good. They offered him coffee, etc. Very professional. They told him what he could and could not do, and he said it was a good experience.
