I had problems with my kids' mother, and I decided to take her to court to get full custody and primary time. At the time when I brought her to court, I had less than 50/50, so there's just a multitude of things that led me to take her to court.
She was just very difficult to parent with. She had some questionable people in my kids' lives. She had a guy living with her who was a drug addict and had anger issues when he drank alcohol. And then just her leaving the kids home alone.
The problem was I wouldn't find these things out until the kids came and told me. Sometimes it took a certain event to trigger that conversation with the kids.
A lot of stuff came out in the court case that I had no idea about. It was an enlightening experience.
