We separated two and a half years ago and finally got divorced. But about ten years before that, maybe a little less, I actually went to Brenda for a consultation because we were going to split then. My kids were really young. It was tough. We ended up going to a marriage retreat, which ended up working for a few years.
This time around, my ex did not want to do lawyers. She just wanted to come up with it ourselves and go to mediation. I'm like, "I don't know the rules. I don't know how the system works. I'm going to hire a lawyer." That's what I did. I went with Brenda right away because I knew her from about ten years before that.
And even if we went through mediation, I still wanted Brenda with me. I don't know the law. If someone's house is on fire, you're going to call the fire department. You're not going to tackle that yourself. So I wanted a lawyer who was a family law lawyer who knew what they were doing.
