Previous Legal Experience

I was a little disappointed by how it evolved. How accounts were managed and how things were done.

Brenda wasn't the first family lawyer that I did hire. With my first family lawyer, I was a little disappointed by how it evolved. How accounts were managed and how things were done.

The first firm or lawyer that I had, unfortunately, didn't work out. It seemed to be going okay for a time. There was a lot of work to be done. In family law, there are a lot of things to prepare and a lot of work to be done as an individual. I found out that my current family lawyer was going to take maternity leave. Then, I was passed along to her replacement. I sort of felt like I was starting from scratch again. I had to explain myself to the replacement family lawyer.

About a month later, that lawyer left and went to a different firm in a different jurisdiction. So, I ended up talking with the partner of the law firm. I wasn't very happy. We'd been working for close to a year, and I was given very little notice. I think it was maybe not even two weeks' notice that there was going to be a maternity leave. It's not anything against anybody taking any sort of leave. It was just very little notice and then to be passed on to the next person. Then, to be said, "Well, the partner will take your case." I'm like, "Well, no, no. You deal with other things, not family law." I would like to get somebody that does family law. I felt a little passed around and incomplete.

I wish I had done more research or maybe not gone in necessarily this direction. I'm not saying that the lawyer that I had originally was a bad lawyer, but boy, was it bad timing. Then I found out she didn't actually return after her maternity leave. She now does something else, but she's still a lawyer but no longer in family law. (LAUGHTER)  so I felt a little passed around.
