Overall Experience
She always had a response. I really appreciated that because it showed her astuteness and her intelligence.

They fight for you. They will fight your fight for you because it's stressful enough going through a divorce when you have to fight the person that you've been fighting for, however many years you were together, let them fight for you. Not all superheroes wear capes. That's what I kept saying to Brenda. I was like, "You do the work of God." Honestly, it's what women need.
The staff was just always respectful. I never felt like just another divorce. That's the thing in a law firm, a family law firm, and they're dealing with divorce after divorce. You're just another divorce. But when you're going through it, it's the most harrowing experience, and you need to know that they care about you. And I did feel like they did.
She just had an air of knowing her shit. So, part of the reason why I had such a rough time with this whole thing was because we were common law. We weren't married. And his lawyer kept pointing that out at every opportunity. Well, they were never married. They were never married. And because I stayed home, she just kept pointing out that I kept underemploying myself. Meanwhile, I was working from home and running a home daycare and running a sewing business, and running a photography business. I was making as much then as I'm making now.
So I did try hard, and they disrespected me the whole way through. And Brenda always rooted for me. And just when they'd say, well, she was underemployed, and then she'd point out, well, actually, she was doing this, this. And they, oh, she wasn't married. And she's like, yeah, they were together for 23 years, and they're common law so she always had a response. I really appreciated that because it showed her astuteness and her intelligence and then just the care that she had for me as a person, too.
It's a really nice office, and they're really sweet the moment you walk in. And they always offer you something to drink when you go in. You're not like standing there waiting while the staff is yapping at each other. They always immediately sat me if I was coming to do something, or they would immediately take care of... No, it's perfect, actually. When I look back. I know people say, well, don't give 100% because then there's no room for improvement. But no, they were 100%. And just for them to keep in mind that we're people, and I feel like they do know that, but even just to remind them and thank them for treating me like a person and to keep that up.
