Internal Firm Feedback
I wish I knew exactly how much was in there at all times because it's a surprise.

Client: With Kaila, my retainer was $3,000. I think that was probably the most confusing part. It is like you're paying $3,000, and you have to have at least 1500 in your pot at all times. Or no, if it gets below 1500, you need to bump it up to $3,000. I think that was probably the most my brain to wrap around those funds. I wish I knew exactly how much was in there at all times because it's a surprise when it pops up when you don't have those funds.
Client: I really liked her as a lawyer and thought she was extremely professional. On a scale of one to ten, I'd put like an eight.
Interviewer: Is there something that she could have done to make your experience better with her?
Client: I think it's the communication part, and I'm almost thankful that she didn't communicate more because it cost me more money every time she communicated with me. I think sometimes I was just unsure of what the status was of where we were at with things. That's it. That's the biggest thing. And I think the whole separation process, in general, is very stressful. I think she did her best to communicate as much as possible, but there was also a change of the clerk during my case, and that was challenging because I wasn't really sure what was happening. That information came out, and it was a bit of a surprise. And then somebody else had to take over, and vacations, and all of that. But that is life, and that is how things work. With a separation, you're ready to get it done. The process is just long.
Client: The biggest thing I would try to direct people if they were getting into a position where they had to hire a lawyer, I would say get a good therapist. And it'd be great if the firm actually had something like that where they would recommend someone to work with because I think there's just this unknown of how the legal system works and what's a valid reason to fight and what's not. And you can have that conversation with your lawyer, but they're there to support you in your case. But what are the fights that you want to fight? What are the battles you want to go to court with or go to their lawyer with?
Interviewer: How would you rate them on the services they offered you as a whole?
Client: Eight.
Interviewer: Okay. Is there anything that they could have done to improve your experience?
Client: I guess I would like to have some timeline structure of where we're at and what the next steps are, and very clear and blunt because sometimes I just felt like I didn't know what was happening or I felt confused. But that was also like I was just confused because I was really still trying to process what happened to my life.
Interviewer: Do you have any other suggestions for the firm or for Kaila that come to mind?
Client: The only one was, like, if they had somebody on staff that could really just advise you, without costing money from a lawyer, of what the fights are worth. Being frank, I actually am very lucky that I have an employer that gives me free legal support. And there's been lots of times where I've actually called in to get that support and ask questions so that I could get that advice of what's valuable for me to bring to my lawyer and what's valuable not to bring to my lawyer so that I could get the best use of my money.
Client: And if that was a service that was offered for free, I think the biggest thing is I don't want to fight about something that's going to cost me money, and then it not be worth it.
